Bracht in januari 1942 geïnterneerde Duitsers naar Bombay en op 14 februari 1942 was het schip betrokken bij de evacuatie van de Nederlandse Kolonie uit Singapore.
Of deze evacués daar wat mee opgeschoten zijn is mij niet bekend. Kort daarop immers veroverden de Jappen Nederlands Oost Indië.
Op 16 februari 1942 was de Plancius betrokken bij de evacuatie van Nederlandse en Engelse personen van Tandjong Priok naar Australië.
In april 1942 fungeerde het schip als logementschip voor de onderzeeboot dienst te Trincomalee (op Sri Lanka, tot 1972 Ceylon) en nog wat later als hoofdkwartier van de Nederlandse strijdkrachten.
Op 2 oktober 1945 was het schip terug in Tandjong Priok en deed daar ook weer dienst als hoofdkwartier van luitenant admiraal Helfrich.
Vervolgens werd het weer gebruikt als logementschip voor de Koninklijke Marine.
In 1946 / 47 is het weer in oude glorie hersteld om weer dienst te doen als passagiersschip.
In 1947 werd de thuishaven gewijzigd van Batavia in Amsterdam.
In 1958 is het schip voor de sloop verkocht en is in Hong Kong gesloopt

On 25th January 1953 she caught fire in the Gladstone Dock, Liverpool.

In an effort to put out the fire, the volume of water pumped into her caused her her to list and she sunk in the dock where she remained until March 1954 when she was righted. The salvage operation coast a whopping half a million pounds, an incredible sum in the fifties, but to no avail. She was declared a total loss and was towed to La Spezia later that year and scrapped.

SS Empress of Britain was a British Ocean Liner steamer of 42,348 tons built in 1931 by John Brown, Clydebank, Scotland, Yard No 530. She was powered by a steam turbine, Parson Type.

She was owned by the CANADIAN PACIFIC STEAMSHIPS LTD. CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY CO.

On the 28th October 1940 when on route from TABLE BAY for LIVERPOOL carrying a cargo of 300 tons sugar & 300 tons of general stores she was torpedoed without warning by German submarine U-32 and sunk. 45 persons were lost from total of 623.

On 26th October 1940 she was spotted by a German bomber north west of the Irish coast. Attacked and bombed she burned ferociously for two days.

Most of the troops she was carrying were picked up by escort ships. Having been taken in tow, she was torpedoed by German submarine U-32 on 28th October 1940 and sunk.

The wreck now lies upside down in 160m of water of the N.W coast of Ireland
